RAINBOWS SWEEP UC SAN DIEGO
HONOLULU - Dejan Miladinovic blasted a match-high 17 kills to help the Hawai'i (2-0, 2-0 MPSF) defeat UC San Diego (1-3, 0-3 MPSF) in straight sets 15-0, 15-7, 15-10, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match before 6,047 tonight at the Stanley.
The Rainbows, playing without All-American Andre Breuer, dominated by blanking the Tritons in game one and finishing with 60 kills and hitting .400 on the night. The Tritons managed 45 kills, 22 in game three, to finish at .126.
Hawai'i's Torry Tukuafu finished with 13 kills and hit .476, while Brenton Davis, starting in his first match as a Rainbow, recorded a career-high 12 kills. Miladinovic handled most of the block party with eight on the evening and also added two service aces.
The match completes a two-game sweep of the Tritons and serves as a warm-up for next week's Outrigger Hotels Invitational. The Rainbows will meet UCLA, Penn State and Lewis beginning Wednesday, Jan. 20. Matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The tournament continues on Thursday and concludes on Friday.
