'Bows Cruise to Victory over Gauchos
HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i Rainbow
volleyball team made quick work of the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos,
Friday night, winning in straight sets, 15-7, 15-11, 15-8 at the
Stan Sheriff Center. The 'Bows won their third straight to improve
to 10-4, 6-3 MPSF.
The balanced UH attack featured five Rainbows
recording 11 kills or more. Middle blocker Andre Breuer and swing
hitter Torry Tukuafu shared the team-lead with 13 kills. Dejan
Miladinovic, Brenton Davis, and Clay Stanley each pounded down
11 kills a piece.
The Rainbows never trailed in the first set,
ending the game on a 7-1 run. It was a different story in the
second game as the 'Bows rallied from a 10-6 deficit to take a
12-10 lead. After the Gauchos closed to 12-11, UH finished the
game by scoring the last three points to take a two games to none
lead. In game three, the 'Bows jumped out to a 6-1 and 10-2 advantages
before closing out the one hour and forty-two minute match on
a pair of UCSB hitting errors.
As a team, the 'Bows hit .388 and out-blocked
the Gauchos, 17 to 5.5.
The two teams meet again Saturday night at
7:00 p.m.
