
Jialin Sun, nicknamed Sunny, begins her first year coaching at Hawaii. Along with her coaching duties, she brings a shining career.
Recruited by Mike Anderson to the University of Nevada, she helped Nevada improve yearly from 17th, 14th, to 13th in the NCAA Womens Swimming and Diving Championships and earned 12 NCAA All-American honors. Sun also won 15 Championship titles at the Big West Conference Championships. Before coming to Hawaii, she left behind seven school records at Nevada and the Big West Conference. Sunny was also the 50 meter freestyle champion at the 18th World University Games in Fukaoka, Japan, in 1995 and the Chinese National Swimming Champion in 1994.
Her athletic career in China reflected equal success. She stood as the champion record holder in the Womens 50, 100, 400 meter freestyle and 400 medley relay at the Chinese National Games from 1996 to 1997.
Sun served as an assistant swimming coach and private lesson instructor at the Caughlin Club in Reno, Nev. in the summer before this season. During this time, she also worked as a personal swimming instructor. Prior to her summer obligations, she volunteered as a program coordinator for the City of Reno, Parks and Recreation, Community Services Department for five months. Her duties as a swimming instructor at the "Kids University" Summer Camp as well as her lifeguard duties at Lombardi Recreational Center in Reno, Nev. Kept her busy from June through August 1999.
Sun recently graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies degree from the University of Nevada at Reno. Her focuses include Health Ecology Studies (Health and Wellness Management) and Japanese Language Studies. She also received Core-English Studies in Science and Technology Fields from Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China in 1997.
